What We Do:

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) at Rutgers University – Newark (RUN) supports the research, scholarship, service, and creative endeavors of RU-N faculty, staff, student researchers, and academic programs by helping to identify and secure external funding. We primarily support the pre-award project phases, ensuring teams submit high-quality, competitive proposals that are in compliance with various laws and University policies. We welcome principal investigators and project directors at all levels of expertise to discuss specific proposals with us or to explore new ideas and possibilities.

Who We Are:

ORSP staff are available to meet with members of the RU-N community to discuss their research and academic interests and connect them to funding resources and collaborative opportunities. Schedule an individual meeting, one-on-one training session, or group presentation/seminar by contacting your dedicated Contract/Grant Specialist or any other member of the ORSP team.

Message from the Senior Vice Chancellor for Research and Collaborations:

Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N) excels in interdisciplinary, mission-driven research that addresses critical societal challenges. Our strengths lie in leveraging diverse expertise, engaging students at all levels, and fostering innovative collaborations. Through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) I strive to emphasize impactful programs and robust community partnerships that achieve meaningful scholarship. Key initiatives include (1) expanding research capacity by supporting faculty in developing interdisciplinary proposals that can increase funding success rates, (2) amplifying technology transfer opportunities stemming from homegrown research, and (3) fostering research engagement in schools and programs that have opportunities for growth. Our potential for growth lies in expanding RU-N’s role as a national leader in research across all schools and fields of study. By hiring and retaining promising faculty, enhancing cross-disciplinary collaborations, and aligning research programs with our mission, we can drive technological innovations, improve funding outcomes, and foster discoveries that directly benefit Newark, NJ, and the world. Onward!
